MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
The Berlin Independent Film Festival connects filmmakers and film lovers from around the world. BIFF is not affiliated with the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale) or the European Film Market.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
In addition to celebrating great films, BIFF also accepts script entries and awards the top writers of Comedy, Sci-Fi/Horror, and Feature Film screenplays. Jury and Audience Award-winners in all film and script categories will be announced at the Closing Night “It’s A Wrap” Party. Winners will receive an award certificate, and some award categories may have co-sponsors providing prizes – yet to be determined.

The 5th Annual Berlin Independent Film Festival (BIFF), is showcasing the work of new filmmakers who have achieved remarkable feats with tiny budgets.

Having evolved this year from the Berlin arm of the European Film Festival, BIFF’s program of films and high-energy networking events will combine a commitment to the ideals of independent filmmaking with a solid understanding of the global marketplace. Taking place in one of the world’s most intriguing cities, BIFF offers attendees the chance to mingle with film fans and industry players who are all well-versed in the universal language of cinema.

Hosted at the Babylon, one of Berlin’s most majestic theaters, BIFF offers 10 days of screenings, parties, and discussions that are sure to inform and inspire. BIFF honors films and screenplays across a broad spectrum of competitive categories, including Documentary Feature, Sci-Fi/Horror Feature, and Animated Short, to name just a few. From music videos to “No Budget Features,” BIFF aims to explore diverse formats, styles, perspectives, and genres.

Evenings offer social events designed to broaden networks and spark relationships. Afternoons include “skills-share” workshops awash with marketing advice geared towards helping independent films reach new and greater heights. The result is an event that sharpens every tool at a filmmaker’s disposal, while offering opportunities to connect and collaborate with like-minded artists.
