The LA INDIE Film Festival is the partner festival to the well established LA COMEDY Festival, www.LAComedyFest.com. Over the years they have had the privilege to work with hundreds of filmmakers who have told wonderfully funny stories. Many have gone on to make great films in other genres.

Every LA COMEDY Festival they receive hundreds of film submissions and have been struck by how many of those films they receive that don’t necessarily fit into the genre of comedy, but are nonetheless super films that deserve to be seen by an LA audience and Industry. This made them think how wonderful it would be to showcase all the terrific stories that are being told in film, in all the different, creative ways in which they are being told.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
The LA INDIE Film Festival provides a showcase for the best in independent cinema, including short films, feature films, television pilots, web series, music videos, and animated works.

LA INDIE presents a number of awards across all categories, including the Excellence in Filmmaking Award presented to both feature and short-form filmmakers. This honor includes generous post-production packages sponsored by Greenhouse Studios; the feature film prize is valued at $10,100 USD and the short film prize at $4,800. Additional honors include Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary, Best Direction, Best Foreign Film, and Best Screenplay, as well as performance awards for individuals and ensembles from both feature and short films.

The Garden State Film Festival

The 11th Annual Garden State Film Festival (GSFF), is one of the East Coast’s most respected and well-attended showcases of independent cinema. This premier event takes place just an hour south of New York City in historic Asbury Park on the famed Jersey Shore, where huge crowds of nearly 30,000 revel in a four-day exploration of film each year.

The festival was founded in 2002 after a chance encounter in a Sea Girt, New Jersey grocery store by 25-year film industry veteran Diane Raver[2] and Hollywood actor Robert Pastorelli. Mr. Pastorelli and Ms. Raver mounted the first festival in 2003. Since that time, such industry notables such as Glenn Close, Frank Vincent, Batman producer Michael Uslan, Austin Pendleton, Kurtwood Smith and others have lent their support.

GSFF is an all-volunteer non-profit organization.

Entries can be character animations in any medium, from CG animation (Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Animation:Master, etc.) to traditional 2D animation to stop-motion. Consider posting your progress videos in the Work in Progress forum. Feedback and criticism will make your animation stronger!
This month’s clip is a good chance to work on subtext, with the main character’s words not necessarily matching up with what he’s thinking. Enjoy!

In order to spend the majority of your time on the animation, please take advantage of the free character rigs we’ve linked to in the Resources section, and avoid spending a lot of time on lighting/rendering/etc.

  • Copyrighted rigs and/or character designs will not be allowed in entries unless the entrant has the right to use the rig and/or design. The “Azary” and “Ashrafi” rigs are specifically NOT allowed.
  • Don’t edit the sound file (beyond adding silence before/after if needed – please try to keep the extra time to a minimum, winning eCritiques will not include added time)
  • Don’t put your name or contact info anywhere on the actual video (this makes voting unfair).
  • Don’t try to upload files more than 10MB (the server will automatically reject it).
  • Don’t use anything overtly offensive (this is not the place for crude sexual humor, extremely violent imagery, or intolerance towards any culture/religion/gender/etc.) This is also not the place for political statements of any kind.

The United Film Festival offers the opportunity for filmmakers to submit to six unique festivals in Los Angeles, New York, London, San Francisco, Chicago, and Tulsa. With a different programming committee in each city along with rolling deadlines, they are able to showcase a diverse line-up of narratives, documentaries, and shorts.

UFF offer special United Packages to submit to all six cities at once, or three cities of your choosing. Submitters also have the option of adding Feedback to their submission, allowing them to receive notes from our programming committee after the festivals.

The Florida Film Festival 2013

Each year the Florida Film Festival premieres the best in current, independent, and international cinema. Now in our 22nd year, we invite movie lovers to discover the world waiting for them in the dark. This year’s Festival features more than 160 cutting-edge films, some 100 visiting filmmakers and special guests, and special events you’ll never forget.

An oasis for both film lovers and filmmakers in the Southeast, the Florida Film Festival is an annual showcase for the best in American Independent and Foreign Cinema. This 10 day celebration of filmmakers and their art includes an American Independent Film Competition for features, docs, shorts, and animation, along with an International Showcase, Spotlight Films (those already with distribution), Midnight Movies, Florida Student Works, Special Screenings,Tributes, Special Guests, Panels & Seminars, parties, and more. The programming is dominated however, by the American Independent Film Competition, where films are eligible for Grand Jury Awards, Special Jury Awards, and Audience Awards.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Florida Film Festival was named one of the top 10 festivals in the world by festival guru Chris Gore in his 2001 edition of The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide, 2nd Edition.
